A Little Extra Work with Vocabulary Acquisition and Use

Posted on

Part of being a proficient 4th grade student is being able to “consult reference materials (e.g. dictionaries, glossaries, thesauruses) to find the pronunciation and determine or clarify the precise meaning of key words and phrases.” To that end, students in Room D4 got some practice with locating pronunciation keys in the dictionary. This can be especially important given how many students in our classroom are working with Greek and Latin roots. Children need to know what these roots mean and be able to pronounce the words they make.

Glad to see the kids using these reference materials. I bet Valerie (Cole’s mom & English Prof.) loved this!
