Earth Materials Study Begins

Posted on Updated on

Students in Room D4 started their investigation of Earth Materials this week. Over the coming days we will be using a “mock rock” (formed in my home over the vacation) to help understand that rocks are composed of minerals. This initial exploration will then allow us to look at the most common rocks and minerals that can be found in the Earth’s crust and how geologist identify them.

It is encouraged that you ask questions about the lessons and even consider looking through your yard for interesting and unique rocks. In turn, this may inspire students to start rock collections and learn more via the curated videos from Ed on Demand here or in books from our school library.

Very cool. Are your students blogging too? If not I’ll come help you set that up when you’re ready (remember, I co-authored a book about that.:) ) Do you have a class Flickr account? – great family connection besides the multitude of other connections to the curriculum! 🙂 Contact me about that too. No pressure intended … let me know when you’re ready. 🙂
